The pizza was EXCELLENT.
The service was... meh. And we almost never would have tried it because when my boyfriend and I popped in here on a Friday around 8:55 for some pizza they asked us to pay $5 for a Grateful Dead cover band that we definitely weren't there to see. But we went back on Saturday and the pizza was AWESOME. We had the Hoff and it was legendary. Bartender was uninterested and slapped the tab on the bar before we asked for it. But that's okay, the pizza made up for it. -

We took a break from Rhythm and Blooms Saturday afternoon to grab a cold beer and a snack. We sat outside and was enjoying the patio for a few minutes. A server passed us about 5minutes after sitting there and asked if we'd been helped-we told her no. She said she would be right back. She came back another 5minutes later and asked again...which we replied" NO". She left. Finally a guy came and took our beer and snack order(smoked sausage and cheese plate) 10minutes later, he stops by table and tells us both taps are out and they are replacing. Okay, well-let's order something else then. He walks off. I go to the women's room and wait in line for a few minutes-was gone maybe 5-7minutes. Still-no beers and no food. We have now been on patio for 20minutes without anything..NOTHING! We decided to leave and our waiter wanted to know if we would pay for the food. WE NEVER GOT THE FOOD! NOR BEER!
I have been trying to like this place again after continuously having sub-par service here. It's a great place to hang..but consistent lack of service has finally taken it's toll. I will NEVER come back here until someone buys it and gets this place up to standard. The lack of respect for customers is absurd.
I get that you're busy..I really do..and I don't mind waiting a few minutes-but 20minutes is ridiculous. That's not my fault you're understaffed on an event that is planned a year in advance. Shame on you for not training your staff better.
One more thing I want to add: The Barley's in Maryville-totally different. They run that location so much better. Never had a problem there. -

Stopped by here on a Thursday night with a friend around 9pm and we needed to show our 21+ ID's so keep that in mind. We sat down at a table for a while before realizing the only way to get service here is to actually sit at the bar. We ordered the All American pizza. The toppings were oddly distributed. Half of the green peppers were on 1 slice, and there were some slices that barely got any. There was suppose to be sausage and pepperoni on it, but I didn't even notice it. I normally don't mind the uneven distribution of crust but when the crust gets really hard that's unbearable to bite into is where there's a problem. this was the case at the areas where the crust was thicker than normal. The bartender was really nice and all which was a plus, but don't expect great service here if you're sitting at a table. There was a live band playing music which made the vibe pretty cool. Overall, it's a nice place with a huge space that I could see myself giving it another shot - just wouldn't order the pizza.

So, like most places, service can be hit and miss. I would say that 4 out of 5 times, the service is pretty good. I also base a lot of my opinion on a place by how good the cokes are. The cokes get a 4 out of five, service a four out of five and the food I would give a five out of five. I probably go to Barley's at least once every two weeks. The food rarely ever disappoints!

Barley's is definitely one of my favorite pizza places in Knoxville! They have an awesome selection of pizzas, but my favorite by far is the Hawaiian! It has the perfect combination of pineapple, bacon, and feta cheese and it is delicious! I like to dip mine and ranch too and it's even better. My friends and I really enjoy playing trivia here and the atmosphere is always fun and relaxing. The drinks are great as well and the staff is always friendly. If you're not into pizza they have a variety of sandwiches and salads, but I don't think they're nearly as good. Pizza is definitely the best option in my opinion! I'm pretty sure they have gluten free crusts and vegan options as well, so there is something for everyone. This is for sure one of my favorite restaurants in the Old City!
